Green space between Caddington and Slip End

Caddington & Slip End

The changing face of planning

It has been well publicised that significant changes are proposed to UK planning regulations.  We therefore need to be aware of both current law in force and the changes that may be coming.  This can be perceived as both threat and opportunity, and the communities of Caddington and Slip End are keen to seize the opportunity to help shape their future.

The two authorities of Luton and Central Bedfordshire spent many years working together to develop a core strategy, an outline of how to meet the housing and employment needs of the wider area in the coming years and decades.  We were delighted when this process rejected West of Luton as a prime site for development.

Sadly, Luton Borough Council decided to withdraw from the Core Strategy at the last moment.  Central Bedfordshire have adopted the Core Strategy as interim planning guidance.

The incoming Localism Bill intends to introduce neighbourhood planning, new powers to allow local people a real influence in the future of their areas.  A properly prepared plan, if approved by a majority in a local referendum, will then become planning policy for the area.

Caddington and Slip End have been included in the latest wave of front runners identified by the Department for Communities and Local Government.  CaSE4 hope that this is a real opportunity to shape a sensible and sustainable future for our villages.
